“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless” (James 1:26).
“With it (the tongue) we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so” (James 3:9-10).
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who bear it” (Ephesians 4:29).
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45).
"Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit” (I Peter 3:10).
These verses make it clear that your tongue reveals what’s in your heart. As few examples: A harsh tongue may reveal an angry heart where as a negative tongue may reveal a fearful heart.
While on the ice or any other time for that matter remember that "a soft answer turns away wrath" (Proverbs 15:1a)! And it’s also important to understand “…with man taming the tongue is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). We all need God to help us with our speech!
