We have lived in the same neighborhood since 1996. It took some time, but we eventually paid off our mortgage and in doing so became the sole owner of our home and property. As our neighborhood has aged we have seen it change, bigger trees, more cars, fewer children and its become obvious that there are several homes that are now leased. Unfortunately one of these homes is very close to our home. How do I know? Let’s just say it’s amazing how differently we take care of things we own and those things we do not. Ownership gives us a sense of responsibility and care. Ownership means it’s ours and in some way it reflects who we are, so we take pride in it and care for it.
The same can be applied to your view of the mission of MCHA. Ownership inspires passion and leads to action. However, for the Christ-follower ownership does not come from believing in a good idea, but from faith in the Good News. Our ability to OWN comes from the fact that we are OWNED by Christ “In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14). We inherit ownership from our Father.
If you OWN the mission of MCHA the evidence will be clear as you most certainly have a passion that causes you to live your life differently on and off the ice. On the other hand your arrangement may be more akin to a lease agreement …you’re a part, but have no vested interest - thus making little difference in your life. If you fall into the latter category, I encourage you to look deeply into the claims of Christ and how ownership will make a huge difference in your life! Own or lease? Think about it!
